David Cason was born on Sept 8,1955 in Texas. He spend most of his early life in California. He taught high school and was the 8th best surfer in the world in 1989. He went on to train in graphic design in Arizona and worked for surfing and skating magazines for the following years. He was known as the “Father of Grunge.” He is associated with a change in the graphic design world in the 90s.
His style was chaotic, disordered, overlapping and fractured. Some said his messy design could obscure the message but others saw it as expression of emotion and ideas. He changed the design scene and his work is now copied and admired.
Large firms like Nike were fascinated with his design and hired him for design and advertising, and he went out on his own to sell his work and left the magazine, RayGun.
