Greenpeace Research

Updated: May 29, 2023

Who are they?

Greenpeace is a movement by the people.

Founded in 1971 in Vancouver Canada by a small group of individuals, who were concerned about nuclear weapon threats, the name Greenpeace comes from their old sailboat.

What are they?

They are an activist organization that advocates for the planet.

Their goal is to create changes and solutions to how we live to protect the planet and preserve its life.

What Areas do they operate in?

They raise awareness through "non-violent actions"

They target large industrial corporations notably Shell, for their unethical harmful oil rigs.

They will have people attach themselves to the side of oil rigs in protest, or climb onboard them.

Some of their actions are criminal activity and have caused a lot of controversy.

Training Days

They will have training days for the general public to join their mission, around 50 people will gather for a 2-day training session.

Some issues they are involved with:

Air Pollution

the air we breathe has become dangerous due to high amounts of C02 being emitted by cars, trains, trucks, planes, boats,

Diseal used in cars is the leading cause of polluted air in the Uk causing an estimated 97%

Burning Fossil Fuels have a large impact on air pollution and Greenpeace has been working for a long time to try to ban them

Greenpeace advocates switching to electric cars, as this will reduce the dangerous pollution in our air, and will help stop global warming, by reducing carbon emissions

Ocean Waste

Too much plastic and other trash are being dumped into our oceans, this is not only killing wildlife but is also incredibly harmful to humans and has turned many beaches into unrecognizable junkyards.

Climate Change...

Overall the entire planet's environment is changing due to how humans have treated it.

Burning fossil fuels and Transportation are big causes of climate change.

In the Arctic and Antarctic ice is melting at an alarming rate, causing sea levels to rise, this has a drastic effect on the weather patterns, causing fierce storms and wildfires.

Hotter Dry places such as Australia experience wildfires so dangerous that they destroy entire forests. but even besides the fire itself, the smoke caused can be fatal if ingested

At least a million species of animals are at risk of extinction due to climate change

Deforestation

Humans are destroying large areas of healthy forests and wildlife, for their own gain

Some of the things people are using this land for are:

large soybean plantations, to feed animals to fuel the food industry.

Infrastructure, mining, and projects like road or dam-building are also playing a part.

This poses a massive threat to all the wildlife living in the greenery, and to us as it harms the planet which leads more to climate change and other environmental issues

Personal Opinion

I think they have a good cause but their execution of their projects is often not right, and putting the people in too much danger.
